Concerning the phonemic chart activities, I found them really interesting as well as useful. Although I have never used this sort of activity in my classes, I strongly agree with the fact that it makes a great difference in students' s process of learning. Also students would feel more confident while using the target language due to the fact they would be given the chance of thinking carefully about their own pronunciation and wouldn't depend exclusively on their teachers' correction anymore.

In all this sense, I've been considering the idea of having my students going through the phonemic chart activities.

  1. I think the phonemic chart can definitely be used - it's great to be able to refer back to the sounds with the "code-words" (the purple sound, the chicken sound, the nose sound).

  2. And remember, you don't have to do the whole chart if you're not comfortable with it at first (for me it was definitely a process) - but concentrate on problem sounds only.

  3. I always had the impression that the phonemic chart would be too difficult for my students, but now I think I can break it down to the code-words and it will be a lot easier to remember (also for me :-)) I also like Luca's idea of just using some of the sounds first and then see how it goes.
