Using Videos

Hi everyone,

it's me again ;-) (I wanted to put this up yesterday, but then I didn't finish it.....)
I really liked Fiona's ideas yesterday and I am also very much into films.
That's the reason I gave some more thougts to the topic after class and I remembered, that I have used a video to revise past simple last term. In the unit about the past simple in my coursebook they talk about different inventors and my students were most interessted in Walt Disney. When I found this short video on a page about biographies online, I designed the following exercise to go with it. The two worksheets are for a little differentiation / different levels. You could also use the sentences for a sequencing exercise like the ones we talked about yesterday.

Do you have other ideas or examples on how to use videos/films?

  2. Hi Nadine, Hi everyone! =)
Last week I used Monsters University with my teens following that idea on sequencing! In the beggining of the movie, Mike Wazowski is a kid discovering the art of being scary! Then, he finally goes to Monsters University and students can retell each other how was Mike's first day as a student. :)

Pre-watching: How was your first day at school? Tell your partner.

    Watching (snippet 07:00 ~ 11:00)

Who helped Mike on his first day?
    Which places did he visit?

Post-watching: What would you like to do on your first day at a University?

As a practice, we can provide them with some verbs and pictures and students put them in order.
e.g.: get off the bus / meet his roommate, etc

Then, in order to practice Simple Past, students retell Mike's first day at the University putting the verbs in the past! :)

Take a look and see if you like the idea!

    Miss you all!
    Paula
